Are the keys to success really a secret?

Mike Schmoker’s new book, Leading with Focus: Elevating the Essentials for School and District Improvement was recently released. If you have read any of Schmoker’s other books you will notice right away he follows his own advice by bringing the reader back to prior themes, and focusing on the most important things. The key to school leadership, Schmoker says, is focus and discipline.

Another book I am reading is a biography of Elon Musk, the TESLA, PayPal, and SpaceX entrepreneur. It has been a long time since I have a read a biography. I find myself asking, "Do all successful individuals, and organizations in all fields have such focus and discipline?"

The third book that is impacting me this week is the War of Art: Winning the Inner Creative Battle by Steven Pressfield. This is my second time reading this book, but it seems to be more relevant this time. Do you desire to accomplish your creative goals? Pressfield has some advice for you. Focus and discipline.

Are focus and discipline really the keys to success? Who knew?

Evidently everyone who has ever accomplished anything worthwhile, that’s who knew.
